Eagle vineyard facing backlash from neighbors

3100 Cellars, a sparkling winery, is trying to get a conditional use permit to operate a winery and have events.

Since 2017, Hailey Minder and her family have operated their vineyard on a 10-acre property on Artemisa Lane in the Eagle Foothills.

"3100 cellars is Idaho's only sparkling winery, and we really try to make wines inspired by where we're from in Idaho, especially Idaho rivers," Minder said.

But while they've grown their grapes at their vineyard, they've had to make wine at another facility.

Now, they want to have their own winery, to make wine and host events.

"Right now, we pay rent to Telaya Wine Company, and we share space with them, and there's just not exactly enough space around, so we need to find our own spot," Minder said.

To operate as a winery, vineyard owners must get a conditional use permit, and to sell that wine on site, they need support from 75% of their neighbors.

That's been an uphill battle for Minder and her family.

"It wasn't until after our C.U.P was filed that we realized there was some pushback from neighbors not wanting our family-run winery in the area," she said.

Just at last month's hearing, neighbors voiced their concerns.

"It's not uncommon to suspect that some drivers exiting this winery after consuming alcoholic beverages will be DUI, drunk driving under the influence, or at least buzzed," said a testifier.

" We didn't move there to raise our children up in a wine scene. We brought them up to be raised in a nice country, calm atmosphere, and we've been there over a decade," another testifier said.

Minder says while these are legitimate concerns, they will do everything to minimize disruptions.

"We're more than willing to work with our neighbors and with the county about things that we can control to mitigate those issues," she said.

3100 Cellars hearing will be on Wednesday, June 1 at 6 p.m. at the Ada County Courthouse.
